Hello beautiful people! I’m here again. Just like I’ve been here every Friday for the past 5 weeks. I really need to know how you are handling the money situation in your country. Sorry, I mean our country. It’s because in my dreams, I have left this country for you people but this situation is affecting me as well so I guess I’m still a Nigerian 🥲
When I heard that they would postpone the deadline for the use of old naira notes, I knew that something must occur. We all rushed to either use up the money in our possession or deposit them in the bank( I’m just saying ‘we’ but for clarity, I don’t have money that I’ll rush to spend so I’m not among). I guess we should’ve known that something like this would happen. Instead, we should have withdrawn all our money because this country is full of surprises. And yes, they surprised us again because after telling us to stop using old naira notes, why are the new naira notes not in circulation? What are we to use?
Okay, they postponed the deadline and now we don’t have cash in hand. Asides that, there’s little cash in banks, little cash in atms, POS too!
*shouts wahala wahala in portable’s voice*
“No cash. No cash. No cash”
That’s all this POS people have been shouting since government postponed the deadline for the use of old 1000, 500, and 200 naira notes. POS operators are the hottest things in town now. For every 1k you withdraw, their fee is 100 naira. One madam even said her own is 150. Have you seen the queue at atms? It is not me that want to go and stand there only to reach my turn and money will finish. I will just faint. Just yesterday, I fainted 18 times because my body has been running on garri and indomie flakes. What is all this now? How will I do transfer to the baba selling tomatoes and pepper?
At this point, sapa must be confused because are we broke or not? The money in our accounts that we cannot access, does it count or not? Imagine having money, yet you don’t have money. It can’t get better than that.
We still have a week until we stop using the old notes that they are not even giving us access to use. I don’t know what will happen to me before then. I don’t even understand why they are changing the color of our money, like that is going to change its lack of value.
Other nations are being innovative but it’s like here, we only know how to change money. We should just go back to using cowries. Our forefathers that were using it, they don’t have two heads.
Waking up everyday to one news or the other about this country is enough to make a person go mad. It’s alway one story or the other. I will not be surprised if one day, they sell Nigeria with all of us inside. Me sha, I know I will soon run away.
This country needs a miracle. Those of you that have PVC, please vote wisely. I’m tired. My eyes are seeing double double.
Meanwhile, they are sharing old naira notes in Borno and it is not small money.
How far is Borno from Kaduna abeg?
Timely piece!
Hope you’re back from the fainting though😂🧢
